This non-smoking hotel, set in three acres of gardens, takes its name from the beautiful and isolated bay on which it stands, on the road from Dumfries to Kirkcudbright. It has recently been refitted, and is recommended for its award-winning cuisine, based on local Scottish fare with a classic French influence.
The 20 well-appointed bedrooms all have en-suite bathrooms, and many have magnificent views across the bay, with the remainder overlooking the gardens. Each is individually designed, equipped with television, radio, telephone, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryer.

The Murray Arms Hotel is one of Dumfries and Galloway’s oldest and most historic hotels. Built in 1760 by James Murray of Broughton and Cally, it became one of the most popular and famous coaching inns on the Dumfries to Stranraer stage. One of South West Scotland’s largest hotels (91 en suite bedrooms and suites) in the centre of Dumfries. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, trouser press, hairdryer, colour TV and hospitality tray. The hotel has good leisure facilities which include an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and gymnasium. There is also a large lounge bar, separate bar and a lift serving all floors. The hotel’s Reivers Restaurant has recently been awarded an AA rosette for fine dining. The Sawney Beans Restaurant is less formal.
The Cairndale has regular entertainment, including ceilidhs, dinner dances and cabaret nights. The Barracuda Club houses some of the finest hotel leisure facilities available in the area.

Situated on the outskirts of the pretty village of Gatehouse of Fleet and overlooking the Galloway hills, the Cally Palace is a Scottish country mansion built in 1763. It has been renovated and refurbished successfully to combine the elegance of the 18th century with modern facilities. All 56 comfortable en suite bedrooms and suites have been furnished in a traditional style, but with all modern conveniences including satellite television. Many have balconies and most have superb views. The Cally Palace is set in over 150 acres of beautiful grounds which include an 18-hole golf course. The restaurant has an AA rosette for its first class cuisine which is created with fresh local produce. Gentlemen are required to wear jacket and tie there in the evenings. The sunny conservatory is a wonderful place to relax and the adjoining cocktail bar serves snacks and refreshments throughout the day.

Craigadam, a country house within a working farm near Castle Douglas, comes highly recommended. The award-winning game cooking food is terrific and the sport, such as the shooting and fishing parties, wonderful. The house has seven luxury en-suite bedrooms and the cottage (self-catering) has three twin en-suite bedrooms.
Each bedroom is spacious and individually decorated to a theme - Chinese, Indian, Victorian, Scottish Traditional, Scandinavian, Macintosh and Creole in the house and African, Florentine, and Scottish in the cottage. Sumptuous meals are served in the oak-panelled dining room, where all guests eat together around a great big oak table. There is a licensed bar in the snooker room and an excellent wine list.
Craigadam has sporting access to 25,000 acres of shooting and stalking over farmland, moorland and woodland. It concentrates on three main kinds of sporting activity: bird-shooting, deer-stalking and fishing. Craigadam’s central location is ideal for golfers: Many courses of different settings are within 50 miles, including Troon, Ayr and Turnberry.

Kirroughtree, built in 1719, and modified in Victorian times when it was a sporting estate, became a hotel in 1952. Its situation in eight acres of landscaped grounds on the edge of Galloway Forest Park is ideal as a retreat from modern life. It has elegant public rooms, spacious and comfortable bedrooms, and its excellent award-winning food.
