Although Durham city centre is compact, with intimate lanes and atmospheric narrow streets, there are plenty of opportunities for shopping. There is a wide range of shops, from fascinating specialist shops through to the big High Street names that you would expect of a city centre. Much of Durham’s shopping area is closed to traffic, which makes for a more pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
