The Eastgate Hotel was originally a 17th Century coaching inn, located close to the East Gate of Oxford’s city walls. Over recent years it has been renovated whilst remaining in keeping with Oxford’s mellow architecture; the most recent programme of refurbishment was completed in 2005, the result of which is a pleasing combination of contemporary style and modern convenience with traditional character and charm. Being centrally located just off Oxford High Street (‘The High’ as it is known in Oxford parlance) makes The Eastgate Hotel an ideal base from which to explore the historic city of Oxford. Most of the colleges are within walking distance; Magdalen, Merton and The Queen’s College are all near neighbours of The Eastgate Hotel, and the University’s Examination Building is the next building along The High.
After The Eastgate Hotel’s extensive refurbishments, there are now 63 en-suite bedrooms offering all of the comforts you would expect, including satellite television, iron and ironing board, modem access points and tea/coffee making facilities. A new feature of The Eastgate Hotel is the provision of a boardroom – ideal for small meetings and equipped with the modern facilities required to make your event one to remember. One key feature of the hotel’s refurbishment has been the demise of the restaurant. Guests of The Eastgate Hotel may still enjoy their breakfasts in the hotel’s dining room, but there are now no evening meals provided. Finding a good restaurant in Oxford however, should pose no problems. The Eastgate’s bar still remains, and continues its popularity with locals, students and hotel guests alike. Another key feature of The Eastgate is the provision of on-site car parking; at the rear of the hotel is a car park, offered on a first come first served basis – a welcome feature in any city centre hotel, but particularly useful in Oxford, which has very limited car parking.
