Exmoor National Park is such a scenic and peaceful place that it allows visitors to forget all about the hustle and bustle of the High Street. Shopping in Exmoor is generally limited to the many small towns and villages dotted around the region – they may not offer the facilities and major brands of larger towns and cities, but this is surely their charm. Many of these places grew as market towns, and the local farmers’ markets are still going strong today, providing the ideal opportunity to buy fresh produce from a local source. There are also many speciality and curiosity shops on Exmoor, with a wide variety of products and gifts available. For a greater selection of shops, visitors to Exmoor would be advised to head for the Devon towns of Barnstaple, Tiverton and Ilfracombe, or the Somerset towns of Bridgewater and Taunton – many of the familiar names can be found there.
