The Great John Street Hotel is a new boutique hotel set in a former school building in the heart of Manchester city centre. This is a real departure from the norm; both in the sense that it is a boutique hotel in a city renowned for its large, grand hotels, and also because of the way in which it is executed – The Great John Street Hotel is a bold and confident attempt at something a little out of the ordinary, and this is apparent throughout. The overall style is difficult to describe, other than that it is an eclectic and somewhat eccentric interpretation of a luxury hotel. The hotel offers the phrase ‘New York loft meets vintage chic’, which goes some way towards expressing how different the style is, but in reality the Great John Street Hotel really does need to be seen to be believed. Some of the original School House building’s character has been preserved, but it’s fair to say that things are a little different here to how they were when the pupils were in class. The Great John Street Hotel comprises 30 individually designed luxury duplex suites, each with its own unique character and great charisma. Additionally there is a comfortable and chic lounge with its own exclusive cocktail bar, while dining is provided by the contemporary and somewhat outlandish restaurant, as well as private dining al fresco in the hotel’s unique rooftop garden.
The location of the Great John Street Hotel places it right in the centre of Manchester’s Theatre and Shopping District, meaning the city’s renowned retail and cultural delights are within easy walking distance. In addition to theatres and shopping, the Great John Street Hotel is also a convenient base from which to take in Manchester’s celebrated nightlife; hotel guests need not feel obliged to use Great John Street’s bar and restaurant, as there are so many excellent cafes, bars, restaurants and nightclubs just waiting to be explored. A view of the famous Coronation Street set may be attained from the hotel’s rooftop hot tub, such is its proximity to the Granada Studios. Business guests too will be impressed by the location of the Great John Street Hotel; the Manchester G-MEX Centre and MEN Arena are within a very short walk, while the hotel itself offers three function rooms, ideal for meetings. Whether your stay in Manchester is for business or for pleasure, for sightseeing or for taking in the city’s unique culture and nightlife, the Great John Street Hotel offers a luxurious yet delightfully quirky base from which to do it all.
