Hatherley Manor is a magnificent 17th Century manor house set amidst 37 acres of beautiful grounds and gardens in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside on the edge of the Cotswolds. It is rumoured that Hatherley Manor was built for the illegitimate son of Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland. However, the history of the site itself is much older, stretching back more than 1,000 years to the time of Edward the Confessor. To further add to its illustrious heritage, Hatherley Manor was also the place where the stepladder and the deckchair were invented.
Once a moated residence, Hatherley Manor has recently undergone a major refurbishment to incorporate all the modern amenities today’s travellers demand, while retaining its historic heritage and charm. All 52 guestrooms and suites have been transformed as part of this refurbishment, and now feature traditional yet lavish furnishings, creating a contemporary chic décor. Guests have a choice of single, double and twin bedrooms, as well as executive, superior and four-poster suites. All rooms are non-smoking, have en-suite bathrooms and feature a wide range of modern amenities. The hotel reception, bar and its in-house restaurant have also benefited from the hotel’s million pound refurbishment. Thanks to its oak beams and traditional décor, the Dewinton Restaurant boasts a fascinating and historic ambience. The food is as acclaimed as the atmosphere, consisting of traditional English and international specialities.
Hatherley Manor’s array of function rooms boast the same historic aura that pervades the rest of the hotel. As part of the refurbishment process an additional room was added, taking the total to seven. The new Dewinton Room can accommodate up to 15 delegates, while the plush Hatherley Suite has a private entrance, lounge and cloakrooms, with space for up to 300 people. The Moat Suite has a traditional feel with natural brickwork and is capable of holding up to 150 people. The Mulberry Suite overlooks the front lawn and boasts plenty of daylight, with space for up to 150. The Redwood is a regency room with bay windows seating up to 25, while the Oak room has original oak panelling and a Jacobean fireplace, for up to 18 delegates. The unique walled garden, set amongst the hotel’s beautiful trees and lawns, meanwhile, has made Hatherley Manor a popular choice for weddings. And with a perfect location between Cheltenham, Gloucester and Tewkesbury just three miles from the M5, it is easy to see why Hatherley Manor is so acclaimed.
