Herefordshire is not often associated with major retailers and serious High Street shopping, but the county nevertheless offers a decent range of shops, markets and specialist traders; for the more familiar names and a greater range of facilities many of Herefordshire’s residents head for Birmingham and its celebrated shopping facilities. The county town of Hereford is home to a reasonable selection of shops, and is also the main centre for agricultural sales and farmers’ markets in the region. There are also frequent markets held in Herefordshire’s other market towns such as Leominster, Bromyard and Ledbury. Perhaps the most well known of Herefordshire’s retailers can be found in the picturesque towns of Hay-on-Wye and Ross-on-Wye; Hay-on-Wye is one of the world’s most famous book towns, and is home to a cornucopia of second hand booksellers, as well as providing the venue for the annual literary festival; Ross-on-Wye on the other hand has more than its fair share of antiques dealers lining its historic streets.
