	Hotel du Vin can be found in the heart of the historic spa town of Harrogate. It is the perfect base from which to explore Harrogate, North Yorkshire and beyond. Hotel du Vin was created from a row of Georgian houses that are so characteristic of the town and the character and charm are in perfect keeping with the surrounding area. Although there is evidence of Pennine settlements in the area dating back to 4500BC, in addition to considerable Roman habitation of the area, Harrogate’s fame and prosperity truly arrived during the 18 th Century when William Slingsby discovered a spring of sulphur and iron rich spring water in the town’s Tewitt Well. It became customary for the upper classes of Georgian England to partake in the drinking of spring waters because of perceived health benefits. It was believed that nervous tension, gout, rheumatism and lumbago could be cured by drinking spring water. As a result, Harrogate became a popular spa venue and many of the town’s splendid Georgian buildings still stand as a tribute to the rapid growth of the era. The town continued to expand during the 19 th and 20 th Centuries, and the growth was accelerated with the arrival of the railways in approximately 1850. Harrogate has successfully retained its compact and charming feel, with plenty of open spaces and green parkland. Hotel du Vin feels right at home in the centre of this stylish town.
