Hotel du Vin is in the centre of historic Henley-on-Thames. It occupies a recently renovated building just 50 yards from the riverside moorings on New Street that was formerly home of the famous Brakspear’s Brewery, prior to its closure. The renovation has been carried out with sympathy and care, and the impressive Georgian architecture has been preserved as much as possible. In doing so, Hotel du Vin have successfully created one of the most stylish hotels in the heart of one of England’s grandest and most historic towns.

The history of Henley is intrinsically linked to the River Thames that flows through it. By the Middle Ages, Henley had become an important centre for the transfer of goods from land to river transport, en route between Oxford and London. The town steadily continued to grow, and during the Georgian era, many of the beautiful buildings that make Henley so special, were built. The name Henley-on-Thames is synonymous with rowing, and the sport has launched the town into world renown. The first University Boat Race was held on the Thames in Henley in 1829, and the Royal Regatta, one of modern-day Henley’s most eagerly anticipated annual events, was born in 1839. With the opening of a branch line station in 1857 as part of the Great Western Railway, Henley’s popularity and accessibility increased. The town developed industries including glass making, brick making, brewing and engineering. In more recent times, automotive, financial and software businesses have made Henley-on-Thames their home, although tourism and of course the Regatta remain the two mainstays of its economy.

Hotel du Vin is in a landmark building close to the river. The hotel’s persona fits in perfectly with that of the surrounding area, with sophistication, style, character and charm. The old Brakspear’s Brewery building has a real sense of history. The stylish rooms have all been designed with flair and verve. They are wonderfully attractive, usefully functional and satisfyingly comfortable. The attention to detail is second to none, and the array of facilities in each room will satisfy the most demanding of guests, whether they visit for business or pleasure.
