Houstoun House is one of Scotland’s most historic hotels. Much of the present site was constructed in the mid 1500s, and once hosted Mary Queen of Scots shortly before her execution. Comprised of a 16th century tower, neighbouring manor house and steading, Houstoun House boasts a uniquely historic characater that has made it one of the most popular hotels in Scotland’s central belt. Surrounded by 20 acres of glorious grounds and woodland, the hotel has an air of rural tranquility, but is nevertheless conveninehtly located for access to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
All 71 guestrooms have been elegantly furnished and come with a wide range of modern facilities, including en-suite bathrooms, satellite TV, Internet access and IDD telephones. The hotel’s rooms are spread between the towerhouse, the country manor and the steading, and most feature magnificent views of the gardens and the Ecclesmachan Hills beyond. The hotel’s in-house dining options are similarly impressive. The Tower Restaurant, located on the first floor of the 16 th century tower, serves an exciting mix of international specialities and traditional Scottish favourites, and has been awarded an AA Rosette for fine dining. The Steakhouse, meanwhile, is renowned for quality cuts of meat. Its open fireplace creates a warm and welcoming ambience, and serves a range of pasta dishes and children’s meals in addition to some of Scotland’s finest steaks. Guests also have the chance to work up an appetite before dinner or relax afterwards in the Vital Leisure Club. With an 18-metre swimming pool, high tech gym, sauna, steam room and a range of aromatherapy and beauty treatments, it is unsurprisingly popular with guests. Alternatively, guests can enjoy a round of golf at the nearby Uphall Golf Course.
But the Houstoun House Hotel’s majestic setting amidst 20 acres of grounds and woodland has ensured it is more than simply one of Scotland’s finest hotels. The grounds provide the perfect romantic backdrop for wedding photos, while the wedding tem will help with all the arrangements to create the perfect day.
