The Jesmond Dene House Hotel is situated in a leafy suburb of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. It opened in September 2005 to much anticipation; rarely do you see a combination of a country house hotel and a suburban town house, and considering the Jesmond Dene House Hotel’s close proximity and easy access to Newcastle City Centre and the Quayside, this is an interesting combination of qualities – thankfully they work well.
Jesmond Dene is situated just 2 miles to the north of Newcastle city centre and its celebrated architecture, its renowned vibrant nightlife, its excellent shopping, its magnificent bridges and of course the revitalised Quayside. Jesmond Dene was originally a peaceful woodland, presented to the people of Newcastle by the famous Tyneside engineer and munitions manufacturer Lord Armstrong in 1883. This part of Newcastle is still regarded as one of the city’s most desirable, and combines peace and quiet with easy access via the A1 and A167 road network and the Tyne and Wear Metro system. Jesmond Dene House itself was designed by the architect John Dobson, a man who helped create much of Newcastle’s handsome Georgian architecture, most notably Grey Street (once voted the UK’s favourite street). Having been renovated at a cost of over £7 million and transformed into Tyneside’s newest luxury hotel, Jesmond Dene House looks towards an interesting future under its elegant new guise.
There are 40 luxurious rooms at Jesmond Dene House Hotel, each one with its own unique character and a delicate blend of traditional elegance and modern flair. There are also two stylish meeting rooms and simply stunning gardens, but possibly the most impressive feature is the restaurant – accomplished chefs Terence Laybourne and Jose Graziosi craft a delicious selection of unfussy but beautifully executed cuisine from fresh local produce and present it in relaxed, stylish surroundings.
