Chartwell was the residence of Sir Winston Churchill from 1922 until his death in 1965. The Dickens House Museum in Broadstairs, Kent was originally owned by one Mary Pearson Strong – upon whom Charles Dickens based his character Miss Betsey Trotwood in his book David Copperfield. The house has been transformed into a museum to commemorate Dickens’ connection with the Kent town, and contains a fascinating collection of Dickensian artefacts, books, prints, pictures and Victoriana.

During the summer of 1940, the Battle of Britain raged in the skies above Kent and Southern England, between the Luftwaffe and the RAF. The Kent Battle of Britain Museum is dedicated to this key event of the Second World War, and is home to the UK’s most important collection of artefacts pertaining to the era, from medals, documents and prints to Spitfires, Hurricanes, Messerschmitts, vehicles and weapons.
