Located in County Cork on the south coast of Ireland, Kinsale is one of Ireland’s most beautiful and fashionable holiday resorts, thanks in large part to its long history and picturesque setting on the estuary of the Bandon River. Kinsale was the site of the ultimate battle of the Nine Years War, in which England successfully conquered Gaelic Ireland. A Spanish army sent by King Phillip III to support Irish opposition led by Hugh Roe O’Donnell and Hugh O’Neill landed at Kinsale in 1601. However, the defeat of this army by Elizabethan forces effectively ended Irish opposition to English rule, making Kinsale a key location in the history of the long campaign for Irish independence.


Today, Kinsale has retained much of its historic and maritime character, making it a beautiful and endearing place to visit. Nestled between the hills and the shoreline it’s labyrinthine maze of narrow streets have changed little in hundreds of years, giving Kinsale a uniquely old world charm.
