The inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland books, Alice Liddell, spent much of her childhood in Llandudno. Entering the Alice in Wonderland Centre (via the rabbit hole of course) allows visitors to meet the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter and Alice herself. It is a fun visit for the whole family, with enthralling displays and magical sound effects bringing the fantasy to life.

The copper mines at Great Orme overlooking Llandudno are believed to have been some of the most advanced and prolific of the Bronze Age, with evidence of mining here since 1860 BC. Sections of the mines are open to the public, with tour guides providing a fascinating history of the mines and how they influenced civilisations in North Wales.

What better way of reaching the summit of Great Orme than by historic tram. The Great Orme Tramway was built between 1901 and 1903, including the grand Victoria Station in the town itself, close to the modern Victoria Shopping Centre. The journey covers one mile and the views from the top of Great Orme are breathtaking – the town of Llandudno, Snowdonia, Anglesey and Merseyside are all clearly visible.

Llandudno Museum is a fascinating collection of international paintings and objets d’art. It was established in 1927 to house the collections belonging to artist FE Chardon and has evolved into a gallery of international renown. Additionally there is a portrayal of the history of Llandudno from Neolithic times to it becoming Wales’s most popular seaside resort.

The Oriel Mostyn Art Gallery in Llandudno has one of the most celebrated collections of modern and contemporary art in Wales. There are permanent displays of works by major international artists as well as a year round programme of temporary displays and special exhibitions. Additionally there is a craft shop selling a range of jewellery, glassware, gifts and a selection of books and magazines.

There has been a place of worship on the site since the 6th century, but the current St Tudno’s Church dates from the 12th century. St Tudno is the patron saint of Llandudno and the town was named after him. It has evolved steadily over the centuries, although many of its original features still remain intact, including the fabulous stained glass windows and an unusual north-facing window believed to have been used as a light by which mariners could identify their positions at sea.
