The Lygon Arms is an historic hotel located in the picturesque Cotswold village of Broadway. The Whyte family established The Lygon Arms as an inn in 1532, and in the following centuries it has seen many changes, including a time under the name of The White Hart. The Lygon Arms Hotel has never lost its quintessential charm and character however, and after a recent and significant refurbishment, The Lygon Arms Hotel in Broadway remains as it has done for almost 500 years, one of the most popular and acclaimed places to stay in the area of outstanding natural beauty that is The Cotswolds.

The Cotswolds is a range of gentle rolling limestone hills that extends from Chipping Campden in the North to the outskirts of Bath in the South. Its picturesque scenery, quaint honey coloured villages and quintessential English charm make it an irresistible tourist destination, helped by the convenient access to the area via the M4, M5 and A40 roads. The Cotswolds can be reached in under two hours from London, and many people choose to get away from the strains of city life with a break in The Cotswolds with its sleepy, gentle pace. The Cotswolds derives its name from the two Old English words – ‘Cots’ meaning stone sheep shelter and ‘Wolds’ meaning a particular type of gentle rolling hill, of which there are many in this area. The Cotswolds’ economy for centuries centred around the wool trade, and many of the pretty villages and country estates sprung up during the 16 th and 17 th Centuries from the profits of this lucrative industry. The characteristic limestone used for the buildings in this area are due to the large deposits of Oolite limestone found here; Cotswolds limestone was not only used for buildings locally, but also many of the colleges in Oxford and even Melbourne Cathedral in Australia were hewn from the warm, honey coloured stone.

The Lygon Arms makes an ideal base for visits to The Cotswolds. Its location in the sleepy village of Broadway mean it is convenient for all of the area’s attractions, and the gentle pace of rural life is appealing for those wanting to leave the rat race behind for a few days. The Lygon Arms offers 69 luxurious rooms and sumptuous suites, each one decorated in a manner which befits the historic setting. The Lygon Arms also boasts excellent facilities for meetings, and for those who want to escape from the pressures of work, one of the top Spa treatments in the whole of the UK can be found on site, as well as a celebrated restaurant to tempt you with a delicious selection of cuisine. The Lygon Arms Hotel also makes a romantic setting for wedding receptions and ceremonies.
