The Midland Hotel Manchester

Midland Hotel ManchesterThe impressive Midland Hotel is a striking architectural masterpiece on the southern side of Manchester’s St Peter’s Square. The grade II listed building recently benefitted from an extensive £15 million refurbishment but naturally maintains its early 20th century grandeur. History not only transcends the Hotel’s look, it is also streaked through its years of existence.

The Midland Railway Company was responsible for its construction and its name after it was built in 1903. American cotton merchants from the Old Colony Club helped to mark the Midland on the map in subsequent years as they used it as a stopover. In later years it was the first meeting place between Mr Rolls and Mr Royce before a certain car company took shape. Over the years a number of big name guests have frequented the Hotel, from top political figures and the royal family to celebrities and sporting heroes. This venue joins other top venues such as the Palace in the city’s hotel scene. In addition, there are a good number of things to see and do while in this, one of the UK’s top city destinations. There are various clubs, bars, pubs and restaurants in close proximity to the Midland, there is also the Imperial War Museum, the Old Trafford and the City of Manchester stadiums and the Bridgewater Concert Hall, all leading to the conclusion that this Hotel provides a great base from which to explore the city.

Manchester’s Midland Hotel contains a colossal 312 rooms which are each en suite and each kitted out with the likes of air conditioning, wireless internet and a television. There are standard rooms, Deluxe rooms and a handful of classy suites. The rooms have benefitted from the recent refurbishment and boast 21st century design. To cater for the potentially large number of guests there has to be a substantial dining choice; and that there is. There are two main restaurants, a bar and a lounge. One of the restaurants is the award winning French option which is certainly worth a try.

The Hotel’s meeting facilities open up the venue to a whole host of possibilities, and it has indeed traditionally been used for all sorts of events and occasions. There are 11 function rooms in total of varying shapes and sizes and suitable for a range of events and activities. Offering the chance to relax and unwind at the Midland is its health and fitness spa. Here there is a pool, a sauna, a solarium, a gym and squash courts.
