Newcastle has emerged as one of the UK’s most popular destinations for city breaks, and aside from its renowned nightlife and its plethora of pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants, part of the city’s renaissance as a tourist venue is due to its excellent shopping facilities. Just a short journey down the A1 on the other side of the River Tyne is the world-famous Metro Centre – one of the largest indoor shopping centres in Europe, and a magnet for shoppers from all over the country as well as, most notably, Scandinavia.
