The Collingwood Arms is a luxurious grade II listed Georgian hotel set amid lovely surroundings with views out over the River Tweed. For more than 200 years, the Collingwood Arms has provided a focal point for the local community; it was formerly a coaching inn which linked Edinburgh with the south and so centuries of Borders' visitors have followed the path to its door. The hotel takes its name from the merchant family which owned it up until 1955 and it has strong ties with Northumberland's 19th century naval hero, Vice Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, who served under Nelson around the time the venue was built. Indeed, our 15 bedrooms take their names from the 15 ships in Collingwood's 'van' at the Battle of Trafalgar adding a touch of history to the Arms.
In many respects, the Collingwood Arms is a modern hotel, yet the layout and scale have changed little since Collingwood's day. In the entrance area guests are greeted in front of an open log fire, while the library offers a homely and restful place in which to relax. The hotel bar upholds the Borders' reputation for great hospitality with its warm oak and antique leather which shape a relaxing atmosphere where friends can enjoy local beers, a variety of wines and a wide selection of Scottish whiskies.
