Caistor Roman Town

Caistor St Edmund,
Near Norwich,
Norfolk

Just a few miles to the south of Norwich, Caistor St Edmund – Venta Icenorum - was once the capital of Norfolk. It was inhabited during the Roman occupation of Britain, and evolved into a relatively large walled town that was the administrative centre for East Anglia. Although abandoned many centuries ago, it is still possible to imagine how life must have been in this eastern outpost, and the site makes for an intriguing visit.
