As the county town of Norfolk, Norwich is the major city for shopping in the area, and is frequently voted amongst the top cities for shopping in the UK. As shopping experiences go, Norwich offers a very pleasant one, with a relaxed and unhurried feel to its shopping streets, many of which are pedestrianised. The selection and quality of the shops is also impressive, with a good mix of all of the favourite High Street brands as well as smaller specialist shops. Norwich has its own independent department store – Jarrold’s – as well as two modern shopping centres – Castle Mall and the newly opened Chapelfield Shopping Centre. Having grown up as a market town, it is fitting that Norwich’s famous outdoor markets, which date back to medieval times, are still very much a part of the shopping scene in this historic city.
