The Old Parsonage is a romantic English country house, hewn from the same classical Headington sandstone as the colleges, upon which Oxford’s reputation was built. It can be found on Banbury Road, which runs from St. Giles into the leafy suburbs of North Oxford, a little less than a mile from Carfax Tower, the traditional centre point of Oxford. It is the location of The Old Parsonage that makes up part of its considerable appeal; while the fascinating and vibrant city centre can be reached within a few minutes walk, this haven of tranquillity is perfect for those looking to escape the tourist trail and the bustle of city life.
Dating from 1660, The Old Parsonage is every inch the quintessential Oxford experience that one would expect, but through judicious use of contemporary design, traditional and modern are cleverly fused to present a hotel with a unique character.
As you enter through the glorious walled garden and in through the heavy oak front door, it becomes apparent that this is a hotel with a charm all of its own. There are 30 luxurious rooms that span two floors, each has its own charming personality, and all rooms surround an enchanting herb and lavender roof garden. The Parsonage Bar and Restaurant is an intimate, cosy venue with an almost private members club feel, and serves everything from the traditional English breakfast to modern British classic cuisine, all using fresh local ingredients and accompanied by a diverse wine list. In between you will find afternoon tea, the perfect way to while away an afternoon in traditional surroundings. From July until late September there are nightly barbeques on the front terrace, and on Fridays there is live jazz to accompany the fine food. For those looking for a stroll to go with the evening meal, why not try dining at Gee’s, one of Oxford’s most revered contemporary restaurants, just a short distance along Banbury Road, and proud to be part of The Old Parsonage.
Add in first rate meeting facilities and a truly beautiful wedding venue to the equation and it becomes clear why The Old Parsonage to many is the choice for a taste of luxury in one of the UK’s most delightful cities.
