Welcome To the e-travelguide to Hotels, guest houses and attractions in Prague

Make the most of your time in Prague, use the information provided on this web site by clicking on the links above to plan your visit.

‘I see a great city whose fame will touch the stars! Find a man who is hewing the threshold [prah] of a house, and built a castle there called Praha ( Prague). Just as princesses and generals bow their heads when they enter a house, they will bow their heads to my city. It will be honoured and respected by all the world.’ Thus prophesied the medieval Princess Libuše, who is considered by some to be the Mother of the Czech Nation. Whether or not the statement is apocryphal, the sense of something awesomely beautiful hits the first-time visitor to Prague as well as those who return.

The great thing about visiting Prague is that everything is within walking distance. The best way to see it is to go on one of the many walking tours (which are more like standing tours because there are so many fascinating stops), which even include a beer-drinking expedition. If your feet cannot carry you further, the metro and the tram systems are very cheap. Some tours include trips on boats and trams. You can choose whatever you want from the range on offer from the one-hour haunted Prague trip after dark to the nine-hour all-inclusive tour for those who want to see as much as possible in a day. Your guide will be very knowledgeable and speak good English. Incidentally, unless you venture into the hinterland, you will have little problem with language in the city as the whole.

There is so much to do and so much to see. You have the choice of 11,000 bars and 150 churches. There are many interesting museums – the Communist museum is a must. The Spring and Autumn classical music festivals are a great draw as are the jazz clubs and theatres. There is the massive variety of exquisite architecture: do not miss the art nouveau Municipal House, which is an absolute gem inside and out, sited next to the gothic Powder Tower, so called because it stored gunpowder. You will need plenty of time to take it all in, and it is so easy and cheap to reach the city from the airport (by bus and metro, minibus or taxi), that you will want to return, again and again.
