The Macdonald Roxburghe Hotel is a superior first-class hotel. One of Edinburgh’s finest and most elegant venues, it resides in an unrivalled central location in fashionable Charlotte Square. Re-opened in 2000 after a £12m development, the hotel now offers a high level of comfort. Charlotte Square was part of the original 'New Town' Georgian development dating from the late 18th century designed by architect Robert Adam. The Roxburghe aptly demonstrates the beauty of the original design. Like many of the buildings in the new town, the hotel does not display its name. The main entrance is at 38 Charlotte Square and is recognisable by its red carpeted steps.
The welcoming lobby brings old and new together. Crisp daylight pours from a modern courtyard, encased in swathes of glass and lined with slate floors and wooden decks. To your left a lounge and bar carry the unhurried spirit of the past. Put simply, here is a hotel that will appeal to both the traditionalist and the modernist in you.
