The Copper Horse is a traditional free house and family-run dining pub, and with a reputation for good British food and a cosy atmosphere it’s often packed. The building is over 300 years old and retains much of its character, making it a warm venue for eating, drinking and entertainment in Scarborough, Britain’s oldest seaside resort. The menus are unfussy, offering a selection of solid British favourites made special with locally sourced produce and seasonal ingredients. No surprises here but everything is impeccably prepared. Expect classics such as beef wellington, ‘Catch of the day’ and Yorkshire gammon, and why not finish with a homemade pudding? In the warmer months diners can take advantage of the outdoor terrace and summer Sundays are marked with a gourmet barbecue. The emphasis at the Copper Horse is on traditional hospitality and guests are welcome to while away an afternoon in the friendly bar, which offers a good value wine list and draught beers.
