Poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge lived in this charming little cottage in Somerset at the turn of the 19 th Century. During his time here he wrote the classic ‘Rime of the Ancient Mariner’, the subject of which supposedly sailed from nearby Watchet harbour. The cottage has been preserved with the help of the National Trust, with personal effects and fascinating details pertaining to Coleridge himself.

Glastonbury Abbey is set in 36 acres of parkland in the heart of Glastonbury in Somerset. Established under the Saxon King Ine, Glastonbury Abbey grew into one of the finest abbeys in the country. It was rebuilt after a fire in 1184, but sadly could not survive Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries, and has stood as a romantic ruin ever since. There is a visitors centre and wonderful gardens to explore.

Stembridge Tower Mill is England’s last remaining thatched windmill, and is positioned in a peaceful spot overlooking the Somerset Levels. Built in 1822, the windmill was still in service until 1910, and these days it is looked after by the National Trust.
