Arundel Castle
Arundel,

Arundel Castle dominates the skyline above the picturesque town of Arundel. It is one of England’s largest and most complete medieval castles, originally built by Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Arundel in the late 11 th Century. Over the centuries Arundel Castle has endured a turbulent history, the most violent episode of which occurred during the English Civil War, when it was badly damaged after a lengthy siege. Much of today’s building actually dates from the late 19 th Century, when Henry 15 th Duke of Norfolk rebuilt much of it – the castle is still used as the family residence of The Duke and Duchess of Norfolk to this day.

Wilmington,
East Sussex

Etched on the side of a hill at the eastern fringe of the South Downs is the Long Man of Wilmington. Little is known of the Long Man before the early 18 th Century, and his suggested origins vary wildly between the Bronze Age and the 15 th Century, but his mystique is part of his charm, and the Long Man of Wilmington continues to be preserved for future generations.
