The Holly Bush Inn

Salt,
Near Stafford,
Staffordshire,
ST18 0BX
Tel: 01889 508234

The Holly Bush Inn is a wonderfully atmospheric thatched inn in Salt, a small village not far from Stafford. It is believed to have the second oldest licence in England, having served beer since the late 17th Century; the pub itself however is much older, and many of its original features remain intact. The real ales and home cooked food are of a very good standard.

The George
Castle Street,
Eccleshall,
Staffordshire,
ST21 6DF
Tel: 01785 850300

The George is a characterful 16th Century pub in Eccleshall, Staffordshire. There is a microbrewery on site, so the beer (Slaters Ales) is excellent. The food is also very good, and the friendly hosts organise regular beer festivals.

The Junction Inn
Norbury Junction,
Near Eccleshall,
Staffordshire,
ST20 0PN
Tel: 01785 284288

The Junction Inn can be found in a pleasant rural spot in Staffordshire by the Shropshire Union Canal. It is a popular pub, particularly with ramblers and users of the waterways, and offers a good selection of cask ales and substantial bar meals.

The Wheatsheaf Inn
Barhill Road,
Onneley,
Staffordshire,
CW3 9QF
Tel: 01782 751499

The Wheatsheaf Inn is a charming old pub, in business since the late 18th Century, and has recently been refurbished by its enthusiastic owners. Many of the original features, and much of the old world charm, have been retained; the real ales and home cooked food are very impressive.

Yew Tree
Cauldon,
Staffordshire,
ST10 3EJ
Tel: 01538 308348

The Yew Tree in Cauldon (in the Staffordshire Moorlands) is one of the region’s most acclaimed pubs, and rightly so. The pub contains an astonishing collection of somewhat bizarre paraphernalia and bric-a-brac, and is a rather pleasant place in which to sit and enjoy a pint of well-kept cask ale and peruse the menu of hearty pub food.

Bank House Hotel
Church Street,
Uttoxeter,
Staffordshire,
ST14 8AG
Tel: 01889 566922

The Bank House Hotel dates from 1776, and is just a short walk from Uttoxeter town centre. Originally the town’s first bank, it is now a welcoming pub with a particularly good restaurant, and is well regarded for its fine ales and good food. Accommodation is also available.

The Goat’s Head
Market Place,
Abbots Bromley,
Staffordshire,
WS15 3BP
Tel: 01283 840254

The Goat’s Head is a charming old timbered inn in Abbotts Bromley, between Rugeley and Uttoxeter. It is a comfortable pub with a good mix of traditional charm and modern style, and serves excellent food and real ales from local and national breweries.

Burton Bridge Inn

Bridge Street,
Burton-upon-Trent,
Staffordshire,
DE14 1SY
Tel: 01283 536596

The Burton Bridge Inn in Burton-upon-Trent is one of the town’s best pubs, with an excellent reputation for its fine cask ales and friendly atmosphere. The food – simple and uncomplicated – is also very good.
