Chessington World of Adventures, near Epsom in Surrey, is the South of England’s number one theme park. During the halcyon days of British motor sport prior to the Second World War, Brooklands racing circuit, with its famous banked track and legendary bends and straights, was regarded as one of the finest circuits in the world; many of the day’s famous drivers competed here. The site also became an important centre for British aviation. Motor racing and aviation are celebrated in a nostalgic and evocative museum at Brooklands, and parts of the banked circuit, and the famous Test Hill still remain intact.

 
 

North Downs Way

The North Downs Way is a picturesque route following ancient tracks and byways along the chalk ridges and wooded downs of Surrey and Kent, stretching 153 miles from Farnham to the White Cliffs of Dover or via a loop to Canterbury. Much of the route passes through areas of outstanding natural beauty, and at times runs parallel to the historic Pilgrim’s Way.

Waverley Abbey near Farnham in Surrey was founded in 1128 by William Giffard the Bishop of Winchester, and became the first Cistercian abbey in England. Now ruined (much of Loseley House was built from stone taken from the abbey), Waverley Abbey is a romantic and peaceful place for quiet contemplation by the River Wey. It is believed to have provided the inspiration for Sir Walter Scott's Waverley novels.
