Thistle Poole

The Thistle Poole takes up a privileged position looking out at the seaside town’s harbour from its address at the Quay. This means that from a number of parts of the Hotel itself guests can enjoy some sea views to complement the sea air they breathe in when stepping outside the venue’s front door. Despite not being the most glamorous Hotel in the world its location at the heart of the Dorset town goes some way to making up for this. Further, the Thistle provides a good base from which to explore the surrounding countryside with the likes of the Purbeck Hills a mere stone’s throw from Poole and various other Dorset landmarks in the vicinity. Poole is to be found a few miles to the west of Bournemouth, while other notable nearby destinations include Scouting birthplace Brownsea Island and the 1,000 year old Corfe Castle ruins. Once in the town the Hotel is fairly straight forward to reach with the train station less than a mile away and its ideal positioning on the seafront.

Poole’s Thistle joins a whole host of other Hotels from the same group which are spread across the UK; other such venues in the south include those at Exeter, Bristol and further along the coast at Brighton. The Thistle at Poole is fairly small with just 70 guest bedrooms. Some of the rooms look out over the harbour while each is designed with physical comfort in mind and the likes of wireless internet access throughout. The Hotel features an award-winning restaurant thanks to its top quality fish dishes. There are also a couple of bars offering a great chance to relax and unwind, while further adding to this opportunity is the Marina Terrace. One of the bars can be used for meetings and events and is in fact the Hotel’s largest conference venue. There are also other syndicate rooms for small scale events as well as a medium sized facility in addition. The rooms can be used for a number of different activities including wedding celebrations, interviews and conferences.

By air: The nearest airport is Bournemouth International Airport which is approximately seven miles away, while significantly further is Heathrow at 90 miles.

By rail: It takes around five minutes by car to travel from Poole station to the Hotel; two locations which are less than a mile apart.

By car: Exit the M27 at junction 1 and then follow the A31 to Wimborne. Next, take the A349 until you reach the town centre of Poole and then follow the signs for the port. The Hotel is located at the Quay on the seafront.
