The White Swan Hotel is a quintessential English Inn, and can be found at the very heart of historic Stratford-upon-Avon. The White Swan is something of a landmark in Stratford and its beautiful timbered architecture is typical of many buildings of the era; The White Swan has offered good ale and warm hospitality since the 15th century (more than a century before William Shakespeare first put ink to paper), making it almost undoubtedly the oldest surviving building used as a hostelry in the town. Yet it was not always used as such; the building is originally thought to have been used as a private dwelling by a wealthy family. Click here (text link to “History of The White Swan” page) for further details of this building’s fascinating history.

Although the outward appearance of The White Swan Hotel may not have changed much since Shakespeare called Stratford home, the facilities and standard of comfort thankfully have. Yet the passage of time has been sympathetic to the character and atmosphere of the original building, and there are few hotels that can boast such a charming personality as The White Swan. All of the 41 bedrooms for example are en-suite and are equipped with a host of modern amenities that would surely bemuse The Bard. The White Swan still retains its original bar area, and is a welcoming retreat away from the bustling crowds in the town and an ideal spot for enjoying a pint of real ale. The Feathers Restaurant is a pleasant and informal venue, and The White Swan also has an air-conditioned conference room, ideal for meetings or private dining.

Apart from its traditional charm and great heritage, The White Swan Hotel is fortunate to enjoy a very convenient location from which visitors can explore the historic town of Stratford. Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Nash’s House and New Place, and Hall’s Croft are just some of the must-see attractions in the town, while Mary Arden’s House and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage are located within range of the many tour buses which operate in Stratford and which offer a convenient method of taking in the sights and atmosphere of the town.
